Start Memorizing
How memorization, recall, review, and reinforcement work together to preserve progress.
On this page
This guide explains how to work through a Chunk, test what you remember, and keep your learning history consistent over time.
Before you begin
Make sure you already have a Journey and at least one Chunk. If not, start with Create a Journey.
Each Chunk organizes Ayahs. Within an Ayah you can also work with smaller Parts to focus on a short segment before assembling the whole Ayah. Your progress for an Ayah and its Parts is persisted separately from the Journey and Chunk organization.
Working through a Chunk
Open the Chunk you want to practice. Choose the Ayah or Part you will memorize in this session and spend time memorizing it. The app keeps your session anchored to persisted state, so what you see reflects what has actually been saved.
Move at a pace where you can recall the segment reliably. Smaller Parts are useful when an Ayah is long or when you want to build accuracy gradually.
Recall and review
After studying a segment, test recall. Recall is the step where you check what you can reproduce from memory.
What you recall, and what needs reinforcement, is recorded as part of your learning history along with when it happened. That history helps the app surface material that needs review. The aim of review is steady reinforcement rather than a single perfect pass.
You can repeat recall for the same segment until you are confident, then return for later review when the material is due.
Reinforcement
When a segment needs more attention, reinforcement brings it back for additional practice. Reinforced items remain tied to their original Ayah and Part, so the relationship between your plan and your history stays coherent.
Over time, this cycle — memorize, recall, review, reinforce — builds durable memorization while preserving earlier effort.
Persisted learning state
Your learning state is durable. Memorization progress, Part progress, and historical sessions that record recall and reinforcement outcomes with timestamps remain after you close the app or restart the device. Transient UI state may change between sessions, but the underlying history does not.
Because of this, you can pause after a recall test and resume later without losing what was recorded.
What to do next
- Continue through the remaining Ayahs and Parts in the current Chunk.
- When a Chunk is complete, move to the next Chunk in the Journey.
- If you want to protect this progress for recovery on another device, set up Backup & Restore.
